So, I know I just posted, but New York living 101 wasn’t really a post full of fun personal stories and daily events… Well, this post will hopefully make up for some of that! It’s been an action packed week and there is so much to tell and plenty of pictures!! (It’s been a crazy hot week… Like hot humid and sunny).
Lets start with last Sunday- Mother dearest flew into LGA and we embarked on 4 days of craziness.
After dropping off our bags at the house we set out for Union Square and Loemanns!
Mom was really excited 🙂
We explored and walked a LOT… I wanted to give her a more real look at New York. We did lunch at Shake Shack in Madison Square Park, it was (again) so good! Then we ended up walking up to Bryant park because I wanted to show her where we would be taking yoga in a few days. It was here that the trouble started… The lights of Broadway can just be seen from the edge of the park and of course mom found them. And so we went exploring in Times Square. I am so on my way to becoming a true New Yorker… I almost could not stand trying to get about with all the slow people! Bt it was fun and bright and beautiful. We found some shows we wanted to see– Phantom of the Opera and mom decided she would try to get tickets while I was at work the next day. After a long day of exploring, we came home to enjoy a cup of tea and sleep.
MONDAY! Up bright and early we headed out to catch the train into the city for another day. I pointed Mom in the direction of Broadway while I set off for work. After successful getting tickets for Phantom and doing a little exploring of her own, Mom took advantage of my MoMA staff tickets and came to explore the museum.
We splurged on dinner out and had a true night on the town!! The. Of course…
we got in line for the show.
And finally got in and settled.
The show was amazing!!! Words can hardly describe how excited I was. As the music began to soar and the chandelier started to rise I could not hold back tears. (Last time I saw Phantom the chandelier had technical difficulties and the beginning was a little disappointing).
Aaaahhhhhh!!!! Who is that with the chandelier from Phantom of the Opera???? It would be ME!!!!!!
And Mom! 🙂
After the show it was home again home again to get some rest for another busy day.
Tuesday began with yoga in the park!
A light breakfast, and back home to do laundry and grocery shopping. That evening while I was working a special event at the Rain Room, Mom ran over to the Broadway Theater to see Cinderella… Last minute… And she got second row center seats! On my end, while working this posh event for high paying members, the Rain Room decided it was tired and shut itself off in the middle of everything. 😦 this was slightly stressful and embarrassing but everyone took it very well and we had things back up and running and still managed to get over 400 people through in 2.5 hours!! Great night with great staff and members!
Wednesday was a LONG day with a 7:30am breakfast meeting (which was frustrating, but not something I want to discuss in this post), then 7 hours at work, and finally…
That’s right! Mom got tickets again and we went to see Cinderella. It was fantastic! After the show Mom and I did something I’ve never done before- waited in line at the stage door to get signatures of the cast members! (Be ready for lots of pictures… Then this post can get into the more personal stuff, promise!)
Yup, that last one is me and Laura– the lead actress… Cinderella!
On Thursday, after coffee and a short walk through Astoria Park, it was back on the M60 and LGA for Mom to get back to ATL.
And now onto more personal events… Lots has been going on, don’t even know where to begin!
Jobs– I got a new job! Working hospitality at a really nice yoga studio in the West Side. I walked in to the studio to ask about membership and employment, then after talking to the manager, I got hired on the spot! To date, I’ve done 3 days of training and am planning on doing one moe before starting my closing shifts. Thank you ACN for all the background and training 🙂
I have also applied to work at the Apple company, to date I’ve been through 2 rounds of interviews with one more round to go if I hear back from them. I am being considered for my top choose store, in the West Side (feeling a theme here?)! I’m trying to stay very positive about this process, I’m very hopeful for this job. Things have been going well so far!
Rain Room has been going… Interestingly… To say the least. The lines have only gotten longer- for example the general admission wait this morning at 10am was 9 hours! Crazy, I know!! With the heat, people, and newly enforced restrictions in the room… Some things about the job have gotten more stressful, but we are all supportive of each other and had less then a month left.
I can’t wait to start looking for my own housing.. Although I’m holding off just a little until I know more abut Apple, so I’ll know how financially well off I will be or if I need to look for other things. So of course I’ll keep you updated with news as I get it!
Now, you may be wondering about my status, where did that come from? Well, actually it’s something from yoga class in the park last Thursday. During our ending shivasina (sorry about the spelling) our instructor told us to think of various people, people we knew… people we didn’t… People we loved… People we didn’t… People near by us and those far away… Those that encourage us and those that hold us back… To send to them all thoughts of being truly happy.
There were a lot of people I was thinking of during this time, a few more then others for various reasons… Readers and people who know me well can guess and figure out what persons I’m talking about.
I’ve been feeling a little lonely recently. I recently realized I really don’t socialize much now that I’m in the city or ever have plans with friends. I really don’t feel like I have many friends that I can just crash and hang out with… Much less someone to come home to or wait up for and talk with after a long day. I also think I’m in need of hugs! Really wanting my own space and for it to cool down (or for me not to have to work outside all the time)… You are just always sweating. If and when I have my own place/room, I’m really hoping to get a kitten and have someone to cuddle!!
Well, I think that’s it for fun and exciting things happening up here in NYC with me. I’ve been running and enjoying yoga, working full time hours at MoMA for the next month and adding in the studio. I’m looking forward to getting into a solid routine and begin taking dance classes soon. I finished reading Sherlock Holmes and am now working on The Secret Garden… Think I would like to reread The Geography of Bliss or Eat, Pray, Love next. Finished my 750 piece puzzle today…
Not to mention, Happy July 4th!! I’m very very sad and disappointed that I missed running in the worlds largest 10k this morning– The Atlanta Peachtree Road Race. I am so proud of all my runner friends who were out there this morning. I heard the weather held off just enough for it to be a good run. Love you all and hope you ran well!! I got up at 5am this morning before work and went on a honorary run!
And on that note, I’ll sign off. Will be heading up to the roof with my roommates soon to see if we can catch a glimpse of some NY fireworks from across the water.
As always– comment, like, and share the blog. Thank you all for following and reading!
